For my second day in Ljubljana, I got out of it (one day is enough) on a heavily-graffitied train and headed southwest through the hills and several cute wee villages. This was my first view of the Slovenian countryside, and I was impressed :)

My destination for the day was the town of Postojna, population 15,000 and not very interesting.

However, the reason all the tourists venture out this way in droves is not for the town, but for what's just outside of it in this nice little spot...

...this cave!

Postojna Cave is a 20km-long cave system, the longest in the country and one of its top tourism sites. 5.3km of the caves are open to the public, the longest publicly accessible depth of any cave system in the world. The tour starts with a 2km 'train' ride into the caves, and I'm sure at least one person a day must get scalped by the low rock - video here!

We were told that photography was forbidden in here, but our guide either wasn't aware of that or just didn't care. The guide of the group behind us did yell at a few of us for taking photos though as we were lagging behind hehe. Anyway, it's really amazing here, and a brilliant tour! Stalagmites and stalactites ahoy (but do you know which is which? ;)

About an hour or so later we emerged again, rubbed our eyes, and I grabbed a big grill for lunch along the river. Nice :)

Back in Ljubljana I walked out of the train station and over to the bus station next door for a 90-minute ride north through more cute wee towns and villages, and I continued to be impressed by the stunning Slovenian scenery!
