It was surreal to think we were actually heading to the Greek Islands, and even more surreal when we actually started sailing past them! First up was the island of Paros, and it looked typical of what I expected - terraced hills, white buildings, blue domes, ahhhh! :) Paros is a very laid back island with a population of around 13,000, and is apparently famous for its pure white marble from which the Venus de Milo was sculpted. We were staying in the main port town of Parikia on the northwest of the island.

  • Quad biking around the island

Parikia, the main town of the island. Our hotel was right on the main road, and just a five-minute walk from...

...the beach, ahhhh! The water was so warm, and sun was bloody hot - it was great!

There are plenty of beaches on the island, just take your pick :)

We went for a wander through the back 'streets' of Parikia but everything was closed up. The white outlines of the cobblestones are painted on; I'm not sure what the point of that is other than aesthetics.

Paros is a fairly big island with many other towns and beaches, and we figured the best way to see them would be by quad bike

Good times ;)

On the flat the poor little quad could only manage 40km/h with two of us on it, so we got overtaken a lot hehe, scary!

We were hardly the only quad on the road though - hiring quads and mopeds and screwing them around the island is a popular thing to do here.

This is the town of Lefkes in the middle of the island; just one of many.

After a few hours of tearing up the island, Mo went to coma on the beach and I went to find somewhere I could take the quad bike off road and tear it up some more (despite being explicitly told not to by the guy we hired it from).

And find somewhere I did. When I took the bike back it was covered with mud, all through the suspension, all over the motor, everywhere. The owner was not amused! "I told you not to take it off road!", "I didn't. There was a big muddy puddle on the side of the road." ;)

The leftover product in my hair from the night before combined with 40-50km/h winds while zipping along on the quad equals this hehe. 100kms on a quad bike over four hours equals a sore arse too!

Sunset on the beach. Pretty :)
