While we were having a good old time along Bourbon Street, Kristina's brother sent her this photo of their next-door neighbour's house ablaze!

And this is what's left of it two days later after we arrived.

This all brought back a few memories for Kristina's folks who were home at the time. The house is on the right in this shot, and Kristina's house is right next door with the two cars and the wheelie bin out front. The house immediately across the street went up in smoke back in April and its owners have only just moved back in after spending months living in a hotel while it was repaired.

The house has been unoccupied for about two years. The owners went through a messy divorce and no one really knows what the deal with the property is.

Nine fire engines attended the scene, and the cause of the fire has been ruled as arson. The question is who and why. Neighbourhood gossip is the ex-husband set it ablaze for insurance reasons hehe but who knows. Either way, it's fucked!

As if that wasn't exciting enough, today was Thanksgiving Day! Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the US and Canada, and has its historical roots in religious traditions as a time for people to give thanks for what they have. Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal, often including a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegies. Nom nom nom!

Having already spent a lot of time in San Antonio (here and here) I used our few days here to chill out rather than run around taking photos. We spent our final night (eating again) along the River Walk in San Antonio's Downtown, which is all lit up for the Christmas season.

For much of this trip we were wearing shorts and t-shirts and lapping up the warmer southern weather. We then stepped foot off the plane back in New York to near-freezing winds and general unpleasantness hehe. Like I said before, I have no idea what the future holds after New York (or even how long I or we will be here), but relocating to a warmer climate will definitely be a point of consideration! Anyway, 'twas a great trip of randomness there. I now have hundreds of wedding photos to process and several thousand more to compile into a series of time lapse videos. Ugh!
