Just six days after landing I was off again :(

Singaporeans don't like drugs.

I landed in Singapore at 5pm and wasn't leaving again until 1pm the next day, and so I had a whole night to run around and in the 30-degree humid heat and see as much as possible.

That's a lot of ships!

I got the train from the airport into the central city, just in time for rush hour. Singapore is home to almost five million and is pretty densely populated so rush hour is good fun.

The walk from the station to my hotel was barely ten minutes, but in that time I was already sweating like a rapist!

Check out the shower in my hotel room - you could put on a good show in there for whoever you're with!

That's one big shower head.

After dumping my crap at the hotel I started running / power walking / sweating my way around the city.

My first stop was Raffles Hotel. Aside from being full of shops and restaurants, it is home to the Long Bar, which is famous for...

...the Singapore Sling. The Singpore Sling is a gin- and brandy-based cocktail, although the exact recipe varies somewhat throughout Singapore. The cocktail was invented around 1910 and is very sweet - probably more of a girl's drink but anyway.

At an extortionate $27, I only had the one.

The Long Bar has these nuts everywhere, the shells of which you simply discard on the floor after busting into them.

From Raffles Hotel I took this cycle-taxi thing with the colourful lights all over it to Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping street.

Orchard Road is about 2km long, and if you want something, it's probably along here somewhere! After leaving here I was befriended by a local who offered to walk me down to the marina as it was apparently well worth a look. I was a little suspicious of him the whole time because I hadn't read up on tourist safety in Singapore, and for all I knew he could've been leading me anywhere or waiting for the right moment to mug me. So I had the GPS tracking me the whole time, and when he started to tell me about the gay bars in the area I figured he wasn't after my money hehe.

Looking across the marina towards what will be Singapore's first casino complex - due to open before the end of the year.

Nearby is the 8.6-metre high Merlion - with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. It was first designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board in 1964.

The following morning I was up early for another run around. First up was catching this monorail across the harbour to Sentosa Island, south of Singapore.

Sentosa is a very touristy island resort, visited by about five million every year.

Sentosa's attractions include a couple golf courses, couple five-star hotels, lots of bars, and...

...some bloody nice beaches! Singapore is only 100-something kilometres north of the equator, so of course the water was bloody warm. If only I had more time!

After tearing myself away from the beach I headed back into central Singapore and to Sim Lim Square, a bloody huge electronics shopping centre. If you want gadgets, this is where you'll find them! Nothing seems to open before about 10am in Singapore, and so most everything here was closed - bummer.

Nearby is Little India. Depending on what street you're on, this area either smells like shit, or smells like bloody yummy food!

The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple in Little India, one of the most popular Hindu temples in Singapore.

Leave you shoes at the door, and go pray to whoever they pray to.

Singapore by day. Despite only being able to see some of it, Singapore seemed like a really nice city. It's very clean and green, although according to my (gay) local friend, pretty boring.

The plane back to London was the Airbus A380. This big double-decker monster has 50% more cabin floor space than the next-largest airliner - the Boeing 747, and provides seating for 525 people in a standard three-class configuration. She's one huge machine!

So long Singapore...

Hello again London.

With only six days in Christchurch, I didn't get a chance to meet up with everyone that I would have liked to. But home will always be home, and I'll be back there again sooner or later :) Now to plan the European trip for Mum!
