Fiji (1 - 7 October 2004)

In October 2004 Mo and I went to Fiji for a week, and just getting there was an ordeal in itself. Our 6am flight out of Christchurch was delayed by two hours due to a faulty engine temperature sensor (or so they told us). Come 8am, we were told we would be delayed a further three hours as the problem wasn't fixed! After numerous snoozes on uncomfortable airport seating, midday came around and we were told we were being diverted to Auckland to catch a 4pm flight to Fiji from there. So after another snooze on more uncomfortable seating at Auckland International we were finally on a (working) plane bound for Fiji! But the drama didn't end there, oh shit no! After landing in Fiji at Nadi (some 12 hours late), we still had another 60-minute bus ride ahead of us to reach our accommodation at Outrigger Resort. About 30 minutes into that ride the bus stopped on the side of the road and I could hear bubbling - the radiator was boiling and the engine had overheated hahaha, fuck! So we were stuck in the middle of nowhere in the dark while the driver went into a random house to call for help. A replacement arrived some 45 minutes later, and we eventually arrived at Outrigger at around midnight - 14 hours late in total! Despite all of that I was stoked to be there as you can see ;)

And what wasn't to be stoked about?! This is the view from reception on level 2...

View from the resort pool looking back towards reception...

View from the beach - nice! Unfortunately, the need to shrink these photos means they don't really do anything justice!

The resort was really beautiful; palm trees, pools, cafes, restaurants, the beach, hot bitches in bikinis - I was in Heaven!

If you wanted to pay a little extra you could stay in one of these - a bure, very cool! Mo and I didn't want to pay a little extra ;)

Just another day in the life!

Mo took the opportunity to relax...

I took the opportunity to pose for the camera ;)

We took a day-trip out to Malamala Island, a little uninhabited island about an hour's boat ride from Nadi. I'm not very good with estimating acres or hectares but it only took 15 minutes to walk around the whole island.

It may have been small but Malamala was bloody nice. We did a little snorkelling while we were here too.

What day on an uninhabited island would be complete without a crate or two full of piss?! ;)

For our final night we were given the option of staying at the Sheraton Resort in Nadi. It too was gorgeous!

Beach-side pools...

...and bars in the pools, sweet ;)

Once again, Mo took the opportunity to relax...

...while I took the opportunity to pose for the camera ;)

And that was that for our week in paradise!
