Upon leaving the castle the weather really started to pack it in. We had crossed back into Austria so the scenery was incredible, but very grey :(

Hehehe what the hell?

Oh not even! (One for the New Zealanders there.)

Our destination for the night, and one of the smallest countries in the world, was the tiny principality of Liechtenstein measuring just 25kms in length and 6km in width! This was my first time here, and one of two new countries for me on this trip.

Given the state of the weather we decided to avoid camping if we could. We had the address of the only hostel in the area, and according to my GPS this was it hahaha! Turns out it was back up the street, but it was of no help.

So we spent a wet night in the tents and woke to a very drab view over Vaduz, Liechtenstein's main city.

We checked it out for a bit, got some lunch etc, but there really wasn't a lot to do here. In fact some of the locals were asking why we had bothered to come here at all.

Outside of the city though Liechtenstein really does have some stunning natural beauty and there are a lot of hiking and cycle trails around.

View from Triesenberg, up in the mountains over Vaduz.

Barely 12 hours after arriving we'd ticked that wet box, and crossed into Switzerland.

Our final stop for today wa sConstance (right on the German border although we were actually camping on the Switzerland side hehe - gotta love Europe!). What can I say about Constance? Well I thought it was as boring as bat shit. The main attraction is an island that we didn't get a chance to see which is unfortunate because short of going nuts around the adjacent lake on a bike or chilling on a beach there isn't a lot else to do here.

We did get entertained over dinner though, but yeah - probably could've skipped this one.

Day 9 now or thereabouts, and we left Constance fairly early for what was to be a very short drive to our next stop.

Hahaha awesome! You guessed it, today was Sunday, and pop was out for his Sunday drive and some fresh air!

One of several little Swiss towns we passed through.

Anyway a short while later, and under a very threatening sky, we arrived in Zurich!

Chur chur!

Zurich is Switzerland's most populous city at 350,000. Be that as it may, it likes to call itself the "little big city". Considering how boring Constance proved to be, I would have preferred to spend that extra time here.

Zurich has all your high-end shopping needs covered...

...and all of your cinema needs covered (including that kind of cinema ;)

It has a nightclub...

Modern dance, and a bit of street art ;)

Yup, Zurich is a pretty cool spot, oh and it's bloody nice!

Today was the third and final day of some festival, and we were staying in a hostel right in the thick of it all.

I have a real thing for Swiss food by the way. I developed a bit of love for it in Interlaken. Fondues and potato rostis - yummy!

So yes Zurich was all party party party on account of this festival going on. This was a big Brazilian bash just up the street (that lot sure like to party) and it all sort of went on into the night.

The next morning though it was a very different story - the three days of partying had taken their toll hehe. Bongo man was resting his hands...

This guy was our roommate in the hostel and never came back the night before, instead deciding the computer in the common area was more comfy...

The birds were also knackered...

And even the cash machine was saying it was now safe to turn it off hahaha!

We took a short detour just outside of Zurich, over this covered bridge and on to...

...the mighty Rhine Falls, the largest plain waterfall in Europe. Incidentally, does anyone know what a "plain" waterfall actually is, because we sure don't?

The falls are 150m wide and 23m high. Fun fact of the day: the falls cannot be climbed by fish, except by eels that are able to worm their way up over the rocks. Ah-mazing.

That would be good fun to ride down on a tyre tube!
