Interlaken and the surrounding area (the Jungfrau region) is one of the nicest, if not the nicest, places I have ever been. When people ask me where my favourite place is that I've travelled, I rarely give just one answer hehe, but Interlaken and the itinerary below (similar to that of three years ago) gets a mention every time. This time round Jared and I met and got pissed with some of the locals who practised their English on us and taught us some Swiss German (like "kitchen cupboard" hahaha! Long story :) This is a really popular area for snow sports, although I'm yet to see it in winter (actually, that gives me an idea, hmmm). After the full-on hustle and bustle that is Amsterdam and Paris (plus Mum and Jared had three full days in London when they first arrived), Interlaken was a welcome and peaceful relief! This is one of those places where the photos really don't do it justice. I'm already planning on taking the bike back here next summer which would be awesome!

The next morning we were up at the crack of dawn for the first TGV of the day to Switzerland! TGV stands for something in French which means "high-speed train" hehe. This beast hurls along certain sections of train at over 300km/h, and a TGV test train set the record for the fastest wheeled train in 2007 reaching 574.8km/h! (Here's a video of that test run on YouTube).

Our speed in the top-right. Whoosh!

Jared spent half the trip asleep, and Mum spent it drinking cheap plonk hahaha!

Interlaken - even the train station is pretty :)

Swiss chalets are cool!

Extra what? ;)

Interlaken is some 570 metres above sea-level, buried in the Swiss Alps in the middle of the country. The town itself is only small, covering just 4.4 sqaure-kilometres with a population of around 5,500 although there are a few more neighbouring towns right next door. Interlaken is a great base for tourists wanting to explore the surrounding area, which is exactly what we did :)

As it was getting late in the day by the time we arrived and sorted ourselves out, we walked into the first cycle hire place we could find and went for a burn! The weather was pretty grey for most of our time here which pissed me off - it all looks 100-times better on a clear sunny day.

Now that is a cool goatee!

The paragliders were out in droves the whole time we were here, not surprising considering Interlaken is apparently the world's second-biggest adventure sports destination, just behind New Zealand. I've skydived before (21st birthday present) but never done this.
