The following day the sun showed itself for a bit, and we caught a train into the mountains. Twenty minutes later, we were in Lauterbrunnen!

Lauterbrunnen is a small village in a big big valley, and is actually one of the main reasons I want to bring the bike back here. That valley just goes on and on, and there is a lot down there to see that I'm yet to. The village itself is home to only 2,500 folk, sits about 800 metres above sea-level, and is just stunning - between here and Interlaken (and the Jungfrau region as a whole) I could live a pretty happy and secluded life I reckon (that is if I didn't crave the action of a big city so much).

Look at that, even the village cemetery is pretty hehe!

I thought it suited me at the time.

Further down the valley (some 4kms out of Lauterbrunnen) are the Trümmelbach Falls which are apparently bloody impressive but again, I'm yet to see them. This is just a little guy on the edge of town...

...but we climbed up the hill and checked it out anyway :)

To be continued next summer!

Again, the photos really don't do this place justice.

Fondue and Rösti for lunch. Rösti (on the far-right in front of Jared) is a Swiss dish consisting mainly of potatoes. We got a bacon cheese and something rosti, and damn it was yummy!

From Lauterbrunnen we caught another train further up the mountain. These particular trains make use of a rack rail due to the extreme steepness of the track.

Wengen is another small village in the Jungfrau region, 1275 metres above sea-level, and home to just 1,300 (although the population of the village swells to around 5,000 during the summer and 10,000 during the winter tourist seasons).

Swiss chalets as far as the eye can see.

Not all of them in the best condition though hahaha!

Hehe, cool.

They're pretty big on their firewood around here, and it all seems to be so flawlessly stacked with some folk even making cool little designs with their stash hehe!

These guys are going to have a cold winter!

There happened to be some sort of a fair going on while we were here, with various things to do including put-the-metal-dangly-thing-attached-to-the-digger-in-the-hole (harder than it looks ;)

They were also offering Segway rides - brilliant! Jared fell off his and Mum barely got over 10km/h, but I roared around on the thing - good fun!

Wengen is a great place to just wander. There are several tracks that meander out of town and along the mountain side - something else for me to do on the bike!

While wandering we found some pigs...

Jared got his pinecone out...

I took a leak...

And Mum befriended a rooster hahaha!

Looking back down over Lauterbrunnen from the train near Wengen.
