Just as with Amsterdam, this would be my third time in Paris. In fact, Paris was the first continental-European city I ever stepped foot in exactly three years ago. I then brought the bike through from London on the train over my birthday weekend this year. Bringing the bike here enabled me to see a side of Paris that 99.9% of tourists would not, and I think like most large cities it doesn't impress too much outside of the more touristy areas (addendum: I have since taken this back - more info here). But be that as it may, central Paris is simply amazing, and left Mum pretty gobsmacked as it did me three years ago.

Paris! Home to touch-parking (anywhere the bastard fits will be fine)...

Crème brûlée (ahhh nom nom nom!)...

And escargot (you know, snails! Ahhh nom nom nom!).

Down the hatch! They're actually bloody yummy, nice and garlicky - you should try some!

I don't think I noticed this last time - the metro trains run on rubber tyres hahaha! What happens when they get a flat? More info here if anyone is interested.

This homeless fella got a home for the night.

The Champ de Mars, as seen from the second-level viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower. Too bad the weather was a bit crap, because it looks bloody nice on clear sunny day!

Looking south along the River Seine. The Seine is 776kms in length running from the Swiss Alps to the English Channel, with 37 bridges crossing it in Paris alone.

One of my favourite spots to cycle around (against all advice given in tourist books) - the 12-road organised-chaos that is Place de l'Étoile surrounding the massive Arc de Triomphe.

This pâtisserie is just down the street from the Eiffel Tower. It's not cheap, but it's fucking nice! Take the road between Champ de Mars and the Tower, heading northeast from the Tower about 150 metres to the end of the street. Raid the pâtisserie, head back to Champ de Mars, and stuff your face. One of my favourite things to do in Paris :)
