Antwerp's Central Station is an impressive old thing, but my expectations weren't all that great after the last two days in Bruges - I knew it wouldn't be as nice. Having said that I did really enjoy our day and night here. The place was packed out (although it was the weekend), and there seemed to be shit to see and do around every corner.

I don't know what this has to do with job hunting, but I like it. I like it a lot ;)

Someone really did not want this dude for mayor or whatever.

Belgian's are really big on 'frites': twice cooked, served in a paper cone, and drowned in a myriad of sauces - yummy!

This big hand spanking my ass relates to how Antwerp was supposedly named. According to folklore the city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giant that lived near the river Scheldt, taking a toll from those crossing the river. On refusal, the giant severed one of their hands and threw it into the Scheldt. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero who cut off the giant's hand and threw it into the river. Hence the name Antwerpen from Dutch "hand werpen" (hand-throwing). So there you are, fascinating, and I thought it was just there for semi-amusing photos ;)

This area is the Groenplaats (Green Square) - quite a nice area to chill out in the sun with some frites :) And that there is Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedral (Our Lady's Cathedral). Construction started in 1351 but has apparently never been fully completed. The first stage of construction ended in 1521, with its one finished spire standing 123 metres tall.

Not far down the road is the Grote Markt (Market Square), Antwerp's main square. The surrounding houses are richly decorated with golden statues and it's all very impressive! The statue is of the dude that supposedly killed the giant in that story above.

There was some random skating contest or show or something going on in town, but they weren't very good and made it all look very awkward hehe.

To the west of the city is the Scheldt river, under which lays this bloody long pedestrian tunnel. I would've loved to have biked through here and let the air horn rip hehe!

View of the Antwerp skyline from across the Scheldt.

While wandering around we spotted this Ferris wheel which led us to this fair.

Dodgems - hell yeah! I hadn't had a good bash on these things for years!

Jen wasn't smiling just a split-second later after I t-boned her a beauty and nearly broke all of her ribs hahaha! I love dodgems ;)

Oooo yay, Ferris wheel!

Good views of the city from up there.

After a quick snooze in a city park, we set out to find some grub for dinner, and ended up back at the restaurants around the cathedral.

This guy was putting on a show beneath the cathedral. He's sitting on a three-metre high unicycle there - not bad :)

We found a good spot right under the cathedral and I got stuck into the beer, although my first one had a massive head and this is all that was left when after it settled. Dutch muscles for dinner, and I made pretty light work of them!

After chatting up the waiters and waitress all night we got a free round of Tequila shots (that the waitress joined in on hahaha) and Jen found herself a couple of boyfriends.
