Up to this point it had been showering on and off, and now the wind had started to pick up a little and was blowing against me. Usually in head-winds I slipstream a truck or a bus or something, but the best I could do on a canal path was a group of hardcore road bikers.

12kms out of Ghent my new pals went right, and the signed route led me left through a bit of suburbia.

More suburbia...

...and finally into central Ghent (spelt locally as Gent).

By this stage, I'd actually done 75kms. I was wet, I was cold, I was hungry, I was tired thanks to the head-wind, and decided to call it a day here rather then endure another 40kms back to Bruges in the rain.

I did however have a quick burn through Ghent for the hell of it. The Old Town is gorgeous, but I wouldn't bother with the rest of it.

Outside Ghent's train station, a common sight in this part of the world: thousands upon thousands of bikes hahaha, magnificent! :)

Few shots of Bruges by night: the belfry in the Markt...

Burg Square...

Bars and restaurants around the edge of the Markt...

And always a cyclist to watch out for.

We found a great little restaurant and bar, and got stuck into the best beer in the world!

I had to start with my old favourite - Leffe Blonde! It seems to taste much better here, a bit like Guinness tastes better in Ireland :)

Nothing better after a hard burn on the bike than beer and a big feed of meat hehe.

Some more night shots in central Bruges - beautiful!

Hahaha!
