Day two and it was another early start for the 300+ km/h TGV across the Swiss border, then another to beautiful Interlaken!

This is my third time here, so again I won't bother with the finer details (links here and here).

You'd almost think she was a pro.

But you'd be wrong ;)

We were staying in an apartment so we could raid the supermarket and cook for ourselves. I didn't notice this last time I was here with Mum and Jared (my younger brother) but the Interlaken supermarket sells coloured eggs hahaha - random!

And just like last time, and the time before that, I did the chocolate tour again hehe, for Karen of course. Chocolate is to Switzerland what beer is to Belgium!

We also caught up with a couple chums that Jared and I made when we were here last year. Fiona left, and Verena right. Karen and I got our fix of Swiss-German, and they got their fix of English :)

Stunningly gorgeous Lauterbrunnen, just one reason why this whole area is one of my utmost favourites in the world (so far).

The sheep here were literally queuing up to scratch themselves on the hydrant hahaha! “Ooooo yeah, that's the spot!”

Lauterbrunnen sits on the floor of a long valley, of which I've always wanted to explore further (and hence the mountain biking idea). So, I ditched Karen hired a bike, and off I went!

And what can I say, absolutely amazing. I followed the path for maybe 10kms before it became an uphill slog to the next town along the valley, at which point I headed back. Mountains: I'm happy to bike down them, but not so much up them.

I've got no idea what this billboard was advertising, but it cracked me up nonetheless :)

Good Swiss feed of rosti, and cheese fondue. I had this last year with Mum and Jared again, and my mouth had been watering ever since hehe.

Dotted way up in the distance there is Wengen. Lots of walking trails and whatnot around here - I've done it all before so the draw card for me this time was riding back down the mountain to Lauterbrunnen and back down the valley to Interlaken! Karen opted to take the train back hehe.

Wengen sits some 1,200 metres above sea-level and Lauterbrunned about 700, so that's a half-kilometre drop down the side of a mountain. As expected, it was a steep ride! I was pulling the longest skids and drifting around every turn hahaha - damn it was fun!

This guy must get many a cyclist crashing through the front door hehe.

Looking down over Lauterbrunnen.

From Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken is a milder 200-meter difference in altitude spread over 8kms. I started following the main road out of the valley until my GPS took me off-road to some pretty amazing Swiss scenary.

Our last full day in the Alps was a similar story, with Grindelwald the destination this time.

I was looking for yetis.

Similar to everywhere else around here, Grindelwald is a good spot to just wander, be a tourist, and lap up the vistas (and beer).

Just like yesterday, Karen took the train down and I raced her back over 15kms and a 300-meter drop this time.

On the way back I stopped into Wilderswil, a wee town just south of Interlaken which sits at the entrance of the valley.

Something I hadn't done here before is taking the funicular up the mountain overlooking Interlaken. Way up there is Harder Kulm, a restaurant and lookout sitting almost 800 metres above Interlaken.

Enough said huh! This is looking from southeast to southwest. Interlaken is the township bottom-centre with Wilderswil top-centre at the entrance of the valley. Lake Thun on the right and Lake Brienz on the left with the wee town of Bonigen on its shore.

Geez they'll settle anywhere won't they - this is high on a cliff top overlooking Lake Thun.

Nice day for a spot of hang gliding!

I'm guessing this guy up on foot. His intense groin stretches sure impressed granddad.
