Saturday, 26 January 2008 - Take a break!

Take a break, and learn about my sister who can rot in hell, Mr Plod wanting to legalise hard drugs, Mrs Ham's bad hair day, my Mike eyeing up the bitch next door, and win the random amount of £32,087!

Monday, 28 January 2008 - Lynx chocolate effect!
How great is this ad?! The Lynx chocolate effect - it's been playing the in UK for a while now and has me in fits every time hahaha! :)

Wednesday, 30 January 2008 - Love thy flatmate!

A while back on my then-flatmate's birthday, I locked her in her room (at about 2am) by tying an old tyre tube between her door handle and the handle of an adjacent door.

Then for good measure I stuck an old mattress in front of her door. The next morning, while running late for work and dying for a piss, she spent about two minutes figuring out what the hell was wrong with her door hahaha! She saw the funny side of it - my kind of flatmate :)

Meet Dom, my other flatmate of 18 months. As you can see, he's an altogether happy kind of guy, easy-going, loves to laugh, is a real pleasure to live with, and really helps to lift the atmosphere of the flat...

Not!

Our shower curtain was in serious need of replacing! £5 later we have a nice bright yellow one hehe, but what to do with the old one? Stick it over Dom's door hehe! The result: he comes out ten minutes later to empty his dick, rips the thing down, throws it aside, goes in to punish the toilet, wipes the seat, and storms back into his room hahaha - he didn't see the funny side of it ;)

Tuesday, 5 February 2008 - Pancake day!

That's right, Shrove Tuesday today - the day of the pancake (among other more religious things).

They like to make a big deal of it here in the UK with pancakes and pancake mix in hot demand. Not one for cheating - Jen and I made our own hehe. Random quantities of flour, eggs, milk, water, butter, and salt...

Slap her with the pan, whoops I mean slap her in the pan...

Give her a good toss...

Smother her with the pillow, whoops I mean smother her with the most sugar-filled ingredients you can find and bring on the calories! Mmmm, doesn't that look disgustingly yummy!

Wednesday, 6 February 2008 - Waitangi Day!

Waitangi Day back home today, and for anybody who doesn't know what that is see here. I spent the night knocking back New Zealand brews that we later discovered had expired three months ago hahaha - shocking (but more potent! ;)

Saturday, 9 February 2008 - Nervous flyers!

Birmingham: a "shit hole".

Yesterday was my work's annual 'company day' where everyone in the UK gets together somewhere for a day of presentations about how brilliantly the company is performing followed by a big piss up - lovely. This year it was in Daventry, about a 45-minute drive from Birmingham we're we flew into (which I've been told is a "shit hole" - it seems to me there are actually very few nice places in this country). Anyway, about our flight back to Edinburgh today. We eventually piled on board and then sat there, and sat there, and sat there some more while nothing happened. Eventually two passengers and two member of the cabin crew got off the plane and started bickering about something on the tarmac in front of us all. A minute later, one of the passengers stormed off hahaha! Turns out she's a nervous flyer who decided to bail at the last possible minute! We then had to wait for the baggage handlers to find her bag and fish it out (and those boys are never in a hurry). Ten minutes later a bag got carted off, and the engines fired up. Then we sat there, and sat there, and sat there some more before the engines shut down again. Next thing I see the baggage handlers bring that same bag back to the plane hahaha! We were then told the chick who had bailed was part of a large group whose bags were all checked in under her name, and the first bag they found matching her name wasn't hers; it belonged to somebody else in the group. Another ten minutes went by before another bag got fished out and taken away. After all that we finally got off the ground about 40 minutes behind schedule - pretty much the same as the length of flight!

Wednesday, 13 February 2008 - Mind's eye

Which direction is this chick rotating - clockwise, or anti-clockwise? Can you make her change direction with your mind? Tip: try looking away from her for a bit, at this text for example, and see if you can make her change direction. Trippy stuff!

Thursday, 14 February 2008 - Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's hoping Cupid doesn't do this to you ;)

Sunday, 17 February 2008 - Peebles!

Welcome to Peebles, a smallish town about 40kms south of Edinburgh.

Not much of a population, and not much to do other than get drunk evidently ;)

It is a nice little spot though. This was the view from the hotel balcony outside the room Lisa and I were staying in for the weekend - nice!

Nice spot or not, my main reason for coming was this: the mountain biking!

Glentress, just minutes form Peebles, is one of seven biking trails throughout Scotland collectively known as the 7stanes, with Glentress being one of the better ones (so I'm told).

It's a bit of a ball-buster up the bloody hill but there are some stunning views from up there!

From the summit it's a long and winding track back down again - well worth the ball-busting climb!

Screaming down a hill, sliding my arse out round every corner, jumping over everything, getting muddy as hell and all the rest of it is fun, but...

I was up for something a little trickier, and part way down I took a detour and went the rest of the way down the 'black route' - meant for the hard-core pro's! To make a long story short, the bike I hired wasn't cut out for it, and will never be the same again hehe ;)

Dinner back at the hotel was a rather posh affair, and I had no idea what I was doing hahaha! There was more cutlery on the table than there is in my kitchen, and this was my starter - supposedly deer but it could've been anything for all I know (tasted alright though)!

The mains were slightly more appetising (lamb), and a band providing something resembling entertainment. Not a bad way to spend a weekend :)

Monday, 18 February 2008 - Give way

Remember ladies, always give way to your right at roundabouts, especially when a big fucking truck is coming at ya!

Wednesday, 20 February 2008 - Start spreading the news...
...I'm leaving today, I want to be a part of it, New York, New York! Yes indeedy, the first big trip for 2008 - back to America! Jen's birthday is on Saturday and she has always wanted to see New York in the winter so I figured hey why not?! We're spending five days there which includes a day trip to Niagara Falls just over the Canadian border (so technically we're going to Canada too), followed by another five days on the road going through Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and whatever else we can fit in. Oh, and on the way to New York we've got a five-hour stopover in Amsterdam in which we can run around town and see as much as possible before running back to the airport - hell yeah! So yeah: Amsterdam, New York, Niagara, good road-trip - it's hard being me! :)

Sunday, 2 March 2008 - Here today, gone tomorrow!

I'm back, but only for 24 hours! I found out on Friday I'm going to Cardiff, Wales tomorrow for a week with work. Suits me fine - another new country and city off the list and for free too! The US was bloody cold but bloody great and I've got 500 photos to sort out which will probably take a good week or two, so keep watching this space :)

Saturday, 8 March 2008 - Cardiff, Wales!
Like I said above I've been in Cardiff with work all week and am due to go back later in the month. It turned out to be a very religious experience hehe - all details here :)

Wednesday, 12 March 2008 - New York, New York!
All the photos and all the stories are here. Enjoy :)

Friday, 14 March 2008 - Riddle time

What happens when you march into a shop and start abusing the cashier? She sets off the silent alarm, and before long two police wagons and five police cars turn up ;) Just another British day (note the rain too).

Saturday, 15 March 2008 - Scientology is the Devil!

Big gathering in town today - all of them wearing a mask of some sort. It turns out this is a big protest against the religion of Scientology, just one protest of many all over the globe that are organised by this group. To quote the pamphlet above: "Scientology is a vicious organisation which routinely uses surveillance, legal action, defamation, and harassment to silence those who attempt to speak out against its many unethical practices." Interesting, and the Wikipedia article I linked to above seems to support this statement. More information on this particular group are here if anybody is interested.

Monday, 17 March 2008 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Paddy's Day to any Irish out there, or anyone who thinks they're Irish, or wishes they were Irish. Guinness all round! :)

Friday, 21 March 2008 - Happy Easter!

Happy Easter all! I'm hiring a car and heading down to York, England with Lisa for the four days. York is meant to be a really nice spot but the weather is meant to be really crap, but that's nothing out of the ordinary.
