Saturday, 3 February 2007 - Who needs a hug?!

I was wandering along Princes Street today and found these two giving free hugs. They even had business cards hehe. I doubt you'd get a free hug in Glasgow; a free mugging maybe but not a hug. And did I get a hug? Damn straight I did; two even! ;)

The Six Nations kicked off today with Italy vs. France, and England vs. Scotland (I had to go for Scotland of course :) And check this out, it looks like a mate of mine plays for the French hahaha (and somehow managed to be at the game and at the bar at the same time ;)

Thursday, 8 February 2007 - Fuck it's cold (and I have one)!

I've come down with the cold from hell or something since the start of the week, so I'm working from home today (no I am, really ;) This was the view from my bedroom window when I fell out of bed at 9am. The temperature got down to -3 degrees overnight, and I think sooner rather than later I'll be opening my curtains after falling out of bed to a complete white-out.

The temperature out there at the moment (10am) is a balmy 2 degrees with an expected high of 3. The temperature in Brisbane at the moment (8pm) is 25 degrees - enough said. Come on summer!

Saturday, 10 February 2007 - Flat warming!

I've not long moved in, Jess has just moved in, and Mo has moved out and is going to the Bahamas for two months on work experience. Three good reasons to have a big party! :) I awoke this morning to find Jess hard at it cleaning up the bloody mess.

At some stage during the night a bunch of people got the munchies, decided they felt like some toast, and so helped themselves to a full loaf of Dom's bread and proceeded to punish the toaster hahaha.

Someone else thought it'd be bloody funny to nick our bathroom mirror hahaha! Dom later found it behind the shower curtain hanging from a curtain hook when he went to get in the shower hehe.

Whoa, evidently we picked the right flatmate! Stuff got stolen, beer got spilt all over my bedroom floor, my stereo got punished, the neighbours no doubt got pissed off, there were some very sore heads in the morning, 'twas a good night! :)

More wandering around Glasgow today and I found this: Glasgow Cathedral. She's a big ugly looking thing, and I'm not much of a religious man myself but this reminded me a lot of some of the big cathedrals I've seen in Europe, so I went in for a nosey.

Yup, very very similar!
It has a huge graveyard out the back too that I wouldn't be too keen to wander around at night. Right as I started heading back to work the sun came out. And speaking of sun, it looks like I'm going to Florida in a couple of months; more on that soon.

Wednesday, 14 February 2007 - Happy Valentine's Day!

Good luck boys ;)

Friday, 16 February 2007 - I'm going to Florida!

Mo recently started a two-month work experience thing in The Bahamas in her field of Marine Biology. When the whole Bahamas thing came up some months ago, we started talking about the possibility of me meeting her in Florida immediately afterwards, and us spending a couple of weeks gallivanting around the state together. After a bit of figuring it out we've put together a tentative plan and itinerary. Mo finishes up in the Bahamas on April 15th, and I've booked flights into Fort Lauderdale to meet her there that afternoon. The plan at this stage is to spend a few days in Fort Lauderdale, head south to Miami for a few more days (the shot on the right is looking north along Miami Beach), then hire a car for the rest of the time and cruise around the Florida Keys and the Everglades, and finally head north to Cape Canaveral (near Orlando) to see the NASA Kennedy Space Center. I'm not entirely sure why, but for as long as I can remember I've always really wanted to go to the United States. I'm planning on moving to Canada when I've had enough of the UK, from where I want to travel as much of the Americas as possible. But in the meantime, this will have to do. Two months and counting! :)

This is the first of several trips I'm in the process of planning for this year, so watch this space!

Saturday, 17 February 2007 - To the beach, hooray!

Another rare sunny day today, so a mate and I (along with the bulk of Edinburgh based on the traffic) headed 5kms out of town to Portobello - "Edinburgh's seaside". It's not exactly the Gold Coast, but there's quite a nice beach here that apparently gets pretty busy in summer. Boats out on the water, power station or something in the distance doing its bit for global warming, beautiful!

Middle of winter or not I felt like a paddle! So I rolled up the jeans...

...sauntered on in...

...admired the view...

...nd got the hell out again. It was painfully cold!

These boys must have an easy life over winter - I was the only dickhead in the water hehe. So yeah, that was my day at the 'beach'. Looking forward to Miami beach - ahhhhh!

Friday, 23 February 2007 - Email forwards!

Next time you find yourself with a pair of stockings, tennis racquet covers, ski gloves, flippers, a sleeping bag, and too much free time, you'll know what to do ;)

Saturday, 24 February 2007 - Livingston!

Jennifer recently moved back to the UK and is up here in Edinburgh for the weekend. As you can see the weather's a bit shitty but nonetheless we went for another one of my wanders around a random place between here and Glasgow. Today: Livingston, a town of 50,000 some 25kms west of Edinburgh. We didn't see heaps of it due to the sky threatening to open up at any moment, but what we did come across was nice enough.

Paths, paths, and more paths - bloody heaps of them heading in every direction! I wish had the bike here!

Jen quickly found my choice of photos pretty bemusing - walking paths and the like hehe ;) You've got to understand people I haven't had a bike in six months now (no point in this wintery climate) - the legs are itchy and finding all these (cycle) paths doesn't help!

We eventually found the local mall, complete with chocolate fountain...

Cadbury shop (which I raided, yummy!)...

Jam doughnuts (which I also raided)...

Kilts...

And young kids admiring the lusty chicks on the pillar advertisements hehe ;)

Hahahaha nah I'm far too courteous to do a thing like that, you know me :p

Ahh I see you encountered a scottish hag-witch!
You should have got permission from 400 people in the neighbourhood before taking photos. I hope you laughed at her :)

- Davydd

Wow you can too, I never noticed!! Look, there's your girlfriend's arse :p
- Aaron

I could just see Australia on the horizon in your ocean pic...

Dunno mate, only been to the beach once here and that Saturday (above), and yup it was sandy. Don't you like skimming pebbles?? ;)
- Aaron

I love the scenery of the smoke stacks against the water, really nice, better than the Gold Coast even ;) At least they have sandy beaches in Scotland don't they?

Testing 123!!
